Coaching

What is Coaching?

A coach partners with their client to help them discover what they really want, identifies what’s blocking them from moving forward, and empowers their client to follow through with action plans that connect inner passions with outer goals to produce desired, sustainable results. Occasionally, a coach may suggest new ideas from her/his intuition, knowledge, or experience. While some coaches have expertise in certain fields, their true expertise is in the coaching process. In other words, YOU the client, are the expert and we will help you find the answers to any situation you are challenged with.

How does Coaching differ from therapy?

Coaching is not therapy, and the iLEAP coaches are not licensed therapists. A life coach does not diagnose or treat disorders. The primary job of a therapist is to help clients overcome and manage mental illness. Coaches focus on solutions rather than fixing problems, and lead mostly from the present and future rather than the past. Coaching can be effective as a supplement or follow-up to therapy. It is possible that a coach may recommend a client consult with a mental health professional if mental health issues prevent coaching from being effective.

What can I expect from a coaching session?

The client decides what topics they want to be coached on in each session, and how they want to be coached (gentle, pushed, etc.). The client also sets the pace of sessions, and determines approaches tailored to their learning style. When it comes to action plans, the coach may suggest assignments, but it’s up to the client to decide if they want to follow through with them. Clients can expect to see positive results after their first or second session.

How much does it cost and how often should I seek coaching?

iLEAP offers sessions via phone, in-person, or Skype for $145 for a 45 minute session. For optimal results, coaches typically work with clients weekly for a 3-month period, but the client may decide to space out sessions to bi-weekly or monthly, or based on what they can afford. Please note that priority will be given to clients who can commit to weekly sessions for a 3-month+ period.

What if I’m not satisfied with my coach?

Under the client-coach agreement, the first session is 100% refundable if you are not satisfied for any reason. It is asked that the client discuss this with the coach before ending their sessions, so that the coach can consider any adjustments that need to be made and can make an appropriate referral. The coach can refer the client to another coach that is more compatible with their personality or specific coaching needs.
